First of all, I want to say thank you for inviting me in almost a year ago. You guys have been a great resource to me just to become a better resource for my clients. I really appreciate that. I’ve been able to give really great referrals to some clients.
With people with certain balances, I am able to say, “Hey, Do you have a trust? With a balance like that..” Some are quite high that I see day in and day out. They really need that protection. So, to be able to say that I confidently trust the referrals I give out in this group is amazing. I really appreciate everything everyone has done for me so far in my career and for my clients. Thank you to Marissa for introducing me to everybody here.

Chris Lin Business Banker
I have a passion to teach, to train, to coach; I’ve been in banking for a long time. I started as a teller then became a personal banker. I grew up in a bank. Any public speaking courage that I do have, comes from my experiences in banking industry with managers that I’ve had and people that I’ve met. Having said that, last week I was offered, and have accepted, the experience of becoming a part of the branch manager-training program for Union Bank. I decided to accept that; maybe even having a branch of my own, a little bit closer to home. The program takes about 6 months. Hopefully by then I will be closer to this group instead of traveling from my office in Laguna. I’ll be much more able to serve your guys’ referrals by then.
During the training, I will be learning more about the business of banking. That is actually a lot of money that the Union Bank is investing in me to do the training. This is actually Union Bank’s Motto: “Investing in U.” Union Bank focuses on customer service. I can stand up here and talk to you about checking, and savings and loans and all of that kind of stuff. Everything is basically the same at every bank that you go to. What Union bank really strives for is customer service. This is what makes the difference with any business that you have.
The service you get from the people you go to is different. The bank is investing in me and a lot with clients. Starting this summer, you’ll see a lot of changes in the bank. Our ATM’s are getting remodeled and you’ll see more imaging going on with those machines. You’ll see text banking. You may be able to transfer money between accounts, between each other. Behind the background, our tellers should be giving more seamless service. Because I’m being recorded I don’t want to share too much. I may share some more things later.
Union Bank is owned by Bank of Mitsubishi, Tokyo. They are the eighth largest bank in the world right now, internationally. They are currently investing a lot in Union bank to expand. You’ll see a lot more branches popping up. Right now we are in the Santa Barbara territory. We are in the midst of purchasing Santa Barbara Banking Trust. When you guys go to Santa Barbara, you’ll see some branches there. Recently, Union Bank has hired the marketing company Eleven, which is the company that Apple used to headway their marketing recently. So I just wanted to let you guys now that we are going to be huge, hopefully, with the help of Eleven. I will open it up to questions now.
For the text banking, what type of fee can we expect with the transfer of money?
I don’t know yet. They haven’t shared that with us yet. It will be coming this summer.
Where are your branches currently? Is it nation-wide?
Not currently. We are in California, Washington, and Oregon.
I just wanted to say that Union Bank handles about $2 million a year in rent checks from us and that they have handled our trust account and it is always very easy to read. I would certainly recommend them to any small business starting out.
What is the fee to view transactions that you have made?
You would do this by going online to our online banking which is free. There would be no fee. You can view all of the checks that you have deposited as well as electronic images of checks that have cleared, etc.
I just wanted to say that I have been with Union Bank for many years and that with business banking they don’t put holds on checks. With other banks, even if the money clears in a day they still put a 5-day hold on the checks.
Just as a disclosure, that is not something across the board that may have something to do with your specific relationship with the bank. You can certainly work with your banker to figure out the best situation as far as that is concerned. Thank you for your time.
